ElecQUA began with the challenges of aquarium temperature management: complex installation, changing equipment with the seasons, and difficulty checking water temperature from afar.

Through high-efficiency direct energy-exchange technology that integrates cooling and heating, together with our independently developed IoT platform, we create products and services that make aquarium temperature management simpler and more reliable.

ElecQUA was founded to address the challenges of aquarium temperature management caused by complex installation, operating multiple devices, and unnecessary energy-transfer processes.

02BEGINNING

We began with the lack of temperature-management products for aquariums under 120 L (31.7 US gal)

When product development began, chillers for medium and large aquariums were available, but there was no line of temperature-management products developed for aquariums under 120 L (31.7 US gal).

Users had to manage summer heat in various ways, including repeatedly placing frozen water bottles in their aquariums.

The cost, installation space, and burden of repeated maintenance sometimes led people to give up keeping temperature-sensitive aquatic life—or the aquarium hobby itself.

After identifying this gap in the market, ElecQUA began developing the ElecQUA Thermostat for aquariums under 120 L (31.7 US gal).

An IoT platform connecting products and users

ElecQUA's independently developed and operated IoT platform connects the ElecQUA Thermostat, cloud, and smartphone app.

After registering the product, users can check the current water temperature and cooling or heating status and change settings wherever an internet connection is available.

If the internet connection is lost, the product continues controlling the water temperature using its saved settings.

Product Development Begins
The product's potential was recognized with an Excellence Award in the preliminary round and a Bronze Award in the final (IITP Center Director's Award) at the K-GLOBAL Startup Smart Device Competition.
20182018
Corporate Conversion and Commercialization
ElecQUA converted to ElecQUA Co., Ltd. and advanced to the final audition in the commercialization category of the Fisheries Startup Contest hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, developing the product idea into a business.

ElecQUA Thermostat Launch
ElecQUA officially launched the ElecQUA Thermostat, which was selected as a 2021 Seoul Award Outstanding Product in the Innovative Product category.

Technology Award and Japanese Patent Registration
ElecQUA registered a Japanese patent for its direct heat-exchange technology and received the Gold Award—the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award—at the Korea Invention Patent Exhibition.

US and Chinese Patent Registrations and Invention Day Commendation
ElecQUA registered related technology patents in the United States and China and received a Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation on the 58th Invention Day.

Green Technology Certification and Green Technology Product Confirmation
ElecQUA received Green Technology Certification for its IoT-based thermoelectric cooling technology using direct thermal-energy transfer. The ElecQUA Thermostat incorporating this technology became the first thermoelectric cooling product in the Republic of Korea to receive Green Technology Product Confirmation.

Specialized Green Enterprise Confirmation
ElecQUA was confirmed as a Specialized Green Enterprise based on commercialization performance related to its certified green technology.

Patent Registrations in 18 European Countries
By registering patents for its direct heat-exchange technology in 18 European countries, ElecQUA established protection for its core technology in 22 countries, including the Republic of Korea.
